About the Aurora Police Association
The Aurora Police Association was founded as a social club in 1942 for police officers serving the Aurora, Colorado Police Department. As law enforcement changed over time, the APA expanded their services to protect officers and their families in contract negotiations with the City of Aurora, offering legal services, insurance benefits and a host of other programs for their members and the Aurora community.
In 1994 the APA advocated to increase the amount of police officers in the Aurora Police Department. Members of the APA appealed to the Aurora community for a “2 per 1,000” ratio of police officers to residents. After months of work, Aurora residents approved the ballot measure that allowed the Aurora Police Department to grow their staff of officers from 300 to over 700 strong today.
